Friends of Roslyn
Friends of Roslyn (FOR), a Washington Nonprofit Corporation, is a 501(c)(3) publicly-supported
charity established in 1999 by fans of the television show, Northern Exposure.
These fans wished to support the community of Roslyn, a former mining town in Washington’s Cascade Mountains,
where Northern Exposure was filmed. FOR is operated by a five-member volunteer board of directors.
FOR's mission is to establish and maintain events which will promote and encourage public interest in
and support of the performing arts in general, and the work of performing artists in particular,
and to support arts and educational programs in Roslyn and the surrounding areas,
through funds raised from Northern Exposure fan festivals as well as individual and corporate donations.
In the past, FOR worked with the sponsors of earlier Northern Exposure fan festivals, such as the
Cle Elum - Roslyn Chamber of Commerce
and the Northern Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce, to support
local charitable groups, including the library and the community theater.
Since 2004, FOR has sponsored Moosefest and is working with a committee of volunteers
to organize the festival as a nonprofit event which will benefit local charitable and civic groups.
During its first year, FOR helped establish the town's community theatre, named “Northern Lights” in honor of the show.
FOR's 2004 donations from Moosefest went to the Roslyn Fraternal Order of Eagles
to help with their scholarship program for Roslyn and Cle Elum high school graduates;
Cle Elum Kiwanis, who gave their donation to the Roslyn Public Library;
Roslyn Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, to support repairs
from damage incurred during the Nisqually earthquake in March 2001;
and the Cle Elum-Roslyn High School Band, to support travel to band performance festivals.
FOR's Moosefest 2005 donations went to Friends of the Roslyn Library for the City Hall Restoration.
Donations
Donating to Friends of Roslyn (FOR) helps Moosefest in several ways.
It helps pay expenses for organizing a fantastic event -- including costs
for special guest celebrities from the show. In addition, donations to FOR
help Moosefest organizers and participants' long-time tradition
of giving back to the Roslyn community.
